Let's Get It Passed - Prevent All Tobacco Trafficking Act of 2009..

July 4, 2009 - Senator Herb Kohl is sponsoring a bill which would clamp down on illegal tobacco sales. H.R. 1676, the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act (the PACT Act) of 2009, was passed 397-11 by the House of Representatives on Thursday, 5/21/2009.

This legislation is extremely important, it will effectively end Internet and telephone tobacco smuggling by stopping shipments of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco through the U.S. Postal Service. FedEx, UPS, and DHL have already agreed not to mail tobacco.

The rationale of the bill is as follows:

(b) Findings- Congress finds that--

(1) the sale of illegal cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products significantly reduces Federal, State, and local government revenues, with Internet sales alone accounting for billions of dollars of lost Federal, State, and local tobacco tax revenue each year;

This Bill does nothing to stop sales to minors.What idiot thinks thaat our 14 year olds are using their Credit Cards to order cigs,out of state,to be shipped by mail to their home? We certainly need to clean out the idiots that support this sort of elimination of our freedoms. We are now going to be forced to trade within what ever state we live.This elinates all market competition. It also assures that there is NO OVERSIGHT on individual states tax rates. By this law you will be required to pay what ever that state can get.$2-3/pack.This is same as TEA TAX.
This will be Obama's and the Democrat's 2nd TAX increase in 7 months.This bill does very little to stop the foreign import,but everything about buuying somewhere else in the country. America is losing freedom inch by inch,state by state,day by day and some applaud this notion.Soon you will be sorry,but it will be to late.

This banning stuff is getting a bit old! Should we ban alcohol because of all the problems we have with it? Let's go a bit further and ban masturbating because it may cause carpal tunnel. Enough is enough. Besides I have to agree with the last comment. Just how many kids are sitting at home right now with their credit card trying to order tobacco of the net? Also, there are ways to verify age for net retailers. I would much rather see us focus our efforts on something like a Federal Moron Card instead. It works like this. If you have one of these cards, you can't buy any tobacco at all. It will be illegal. The rest of us who don't have cards can use the product responsibly. The PACT act is nothing more than a tax grab and does nothing to protect our children.

Doesn't it just make you want to start singing "Proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free..." While you are singing it, humming it, whatever, read the post by Azjimbob; he covers it quite well.

when you'll be able to purchase cigarettes for less, why pay therefore a ton of on cigarettes. we have a tendency to tend to supply the cigarettes for less and save a ton of.
