Australia - ASH in support of a national tobacco tax increase..



April 28, 2010 - The Government's National Preventative Health Taskforce has called for a tax rise that would that will cut the number of people smoking from 2.9 million within a decade. (Australia - federal government considering a hike in tobacco tax..)

In support of this action ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) Australia has put together an excellent document entitled: Tobacco Facts: Taxation and Tobacco Products.

Tobacco use is currently the single-biggest preventable cause of death and disease in Australia. National Preventative Health Taskforce 2009

Tax increases on tobacco products are the single most effective way governments can reduce tobacco consumption and prevalence - and death and disease due to smoking.
