July 20, 2007 - Alaska adopts standard for fire-safe cigarettes.. Governor Sarah Palin signed safer-cigarette legislation into law on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Alaska thus joins 13 other states to adopt laws this year requiring retailers to sell so-called fire-safe cigarettes, which are manufactured with a special reduced-ignition paper.
