January 22, 2010 -Sharply increased taxes, further smoking restrictions and, possibly, a ban on smoking in vehicles will be included in amendments to Russia’s anti-tobacco laws due to be announced later this year.
According to an ITAR-TASS World Service story, the amendments will be submitted to the state Duma by the end of its spring session.
The first deputy chairman of the Duma’s Health Committee, Nikolai Gerasimenko, said on Tuesday that the amendments would fully comply with the requirements of the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
