Russia - electronic cigarettes to be banned..

October 12, 2010 - Russia has proposed to ban electronic cigarettes - here's their reasoning.. The manufacturers of E-cigs have not carried out clinical studies and toxicity analysis, and that is why these cigarettes are harmful for health.

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that they do not have right to affirm that the electronic cigarette is a safe and efficient nicotine replacement therapy as all these statements haven’t been proved yet.

“If the cigarette is advertised as a medicine, it should be analyzed and studied thoroughly. In this case the electronic cigarette is a medicine as it contains nicotine that replaces tobacco nicotine,” declared the vice chairman of the healthcare committee of the Lower House of the Russian parliament, Sergei Kolesnikov.

“Consequently, it should be clinically tested. But this has not been done. I think that Russia’s federal consumer rights protection and human health control service should direct attention to this fact and prohibit the distribution of electronic cigarettes,” Sergei Kolesnikov stated. It didn’t undergo pharmacological expertise and it is not known that it is a safe product. It is illegal to sell it.

Denmark and Israel banned have both banned electronic cigarettes.

In the U.S. they are still trying to decide if the FDA should regulate e-cigarettes.. - the answer should be a definite YES.. (E-cigarette hearing begins on Thursday, September 23, 2010..; US AMA policy - e-cigarettes FDA should treat as a drug delivery device..)
